Last week, 15 Minutes of Fame brought you Part I of our exclusive chat with the Leftovers raiding community. The Leftovers are neither a guild nor an alliance. Instead, they’re an open-ended uber-community of players on Silver Hand — both guilded and unguilded — raiding everything from Old World content and Karazhan all the way up through 7/9 BT.

Check out their phat stats:

• The Leftovers run some 70 to 80 raids per week.
• Ninety percent of players who sign up get into raids.
• Over the past 3 weeks, 661 players (on 1,094 characters) have attended a Leftovers raid.
• More than 1,700 players have attended or signed up with Leftovers raids since the Burning Crusade launched.
• The Leftovers marked their three-year anniversary in May of this year with eight Magtheridon/Gruul runs, including seven kills, plus four Molten Core fun runs.

This week, we’re back with Part II of our interview with the Leftovers. We chat about the advantages and disadvantages of “open” vs. “closed” raiding groups and the custom tools that make such an immense raiding community practically run itself.

SweetCron is a bit of self-hosted lifestreaming software from Yongfook, the creator of opensourcefood. It’s kind of like a hybrid of Tumblr and Friendfeed. While SweetCron hasn’t officially been released yet, Yongfook is already using it on his own blog, so we have a pretty clear idea of what you can do with it: feed in photos, videos, status updates, bookmarks, etc, each with a distinct look, so a reader can distinguish content types at a glance.

If this sounds a bit like Tumblr, that’s probably because part of it uses the Tumblr API. SweetCron is customizable and extensible via new PHP classes, though, and it lives on your own domain, so you have greater control over the data you’re feeding into it. The basic theme can be seen on Yongfook’s blog, where he’s testing it out, but he says you’ll be able to develop your own themes through a template editor. PixelJunk Eden is a simple concept boosted by its visuals, sound and co-op gameplay. Much like PixelJunk Monsters, Eden’s simplicity in design hides a surprising amount of depth and Q-Games’ PixelJunk brand now adds one more feather to its cap, presenting another piece of stand-out quality on the PlayStation Network.

We actually played Eden with the game’s producer, Deb Mars, who, despite having shown off the game for the umpteenth million time, either has the patience of Solomon Job, or actually, genuinely, enjoys introducing people to Eden. As she went through the basic gameplay, it was easy to understand and gave a good sense that, much like PixelJunk Monsters, Eden really shines when it’s played with a friend.

While checking out Konami’s 3D fighter, Castlevania Judgment, two Konami employees stood next to us and saw an opportunity to shoot the breeze. While conversing about things that this blogger couldn’t help but overhear, one female worker commented to the other that if “they are just going to make fun of it, you have the power to kick them out.” It was pretty obvious that she was referring to the fighting game we were currently engaged in playing.

And, before you ask, no we did not make fun of it. We waited until we left their space before laughing.

You can now get your beta discussion going on with Blizzard via the Wrath of the Lich King Beta Forums, which have been made open to the public. This means you do not have to be in the beta to view the forums, but you do have to have to be in the beta to post in them.

This is great news for those of us who want to keep track of all things Wrath, with comments and discussion happening right from Blizzard. They’ll surely be a treasure trove of knowledge during the upcoming testing phase.

It’s turning out to be quite an exciting beta night. Stay tuned for more.
